Main problem was for Arden was that French school was only interested in an exchange which did not fit in with Arden’s agenda. Arden have now requested a new partner and have entered Phase II in this regard. Progress slow due to change in French co-ordinator. Definite plans for future development of link. Aim to produce a CD-ROM from each school containing a paragraph from each student describing them, coupled with a photograph. CD-ROM’s to be swapped and from this pairs established. Students would be encouraged to share information on their daily life and experiences. Unfortunately, due to change of French co-ordinator plus the early holiday of the French school, progress has been slow. The plan for next year is to begin again with new class and start process earlier. Bishop Rawstone CE Language College, Preston Lycée Guy MoquetGood contact established Letter exchange worked quite well. Matched pupils with similar ability and interests and established grid with details of student names and matches. English students provided French students with information about their school so that French students could write a presentation on life in an English school Teachers leading the project maintain regular email communication Students on both sides did not have access to school –based email address but hope to have this in next academic year. They were encouraged to give home address or email to each other but this was difficult to monitor and ensure that students maintained contact. French co-ordinator will not have same class next year which is problematic. In general, English co-ordinator believes they have established a good contact with their French counterpart and look forward to it continuing. Another successful year. The link between the schools is strong. Early start to project ensured email link was set up quickly between Yr 10 and seconde européenne. Problems with school server meant emails did not always arrive which caused some frustration. Communication 50/50 English/French. Gifts of sweets etc were also exchanged. French students visited in May during an educational trip to England and came to the school where they met their partners. Chatham Grammar School for Boys, ChathamLycée Auguste RenoirMany year groups involved, link appears to be quite strong 20 Year 10 pupils selected to correspond via email with French school as well as 7 Year 12 pupils (AS Level). Intend to involve Years 10 to 13 during 2002/03 Chatham currently working on Euro-Magazine and plan to include Lycée Auguste Renoir, their partner school in Germany and their new link in Spain. Pupil exchanges planned for Years 10 and 11 during 2002/03. Chatham would also like Year 12 pupils to undertake work experience with similar programme for French pupils in Kent but Health and Safety issue needs further discussion. Year 8 produced brochure on Chatham in French, using ICT. Brochure exchanged with French school and French school did the same. Main problems have been technical in nature, e.g, computer hardware and Internet. Clevedon Community SchoolLycée MicheletNEWCOMERGood link has been made and maintained between schools. Plans to resume contact next year with the hope of involving video conferencing. Emails exchanged between Yr 13 A Level class and Section Européenne class. Information was exchanged regarding the different food and eating habits of the two countries which the French students used as part of a project Set back due to illness of French co-ordinator. Yr 8 Class took over email correspondence when Yr 13 left so that the French group could finish their project.Cowley Language College, MerseysideLycée de L’AuthieProject has been quite successful with a strong link maintained, Cowley located close to Calais and French school located in NW, therefore geographically advantageous Exchange of materials for use in the classroom has been very successful, e.g. newspaper and magazine articles on festival and major events (The Jubilee, Grand National, World Cup) Access to computers, video-conferencing and snail mail will be explored and exploited further in 2002/03 Didcot Girls’ School, DidcotLycée Denis Diderot, Marseille Schools enthusiastic and positive that link will continue Concentrated on MFL project in first year but were also keen to involve the Science and Geography Depts. Language teachers leading the MFL project have agreed on a development plan and the project will commence properly in Sept 2003. Email exchange should be established by October 2002, although students have already made contact by post and an email address for each school has been created. In May, the French students visited Bath and Didcot Girls’ School. The students met in an informal setting with teachers organising a few games to encourage students to mix and form smaller groups. The visit was very successful. English and French co-ordinators still communicate regularly and planning an exchange or visit in Jan/Feb 2003. Goff’s School, HertfordshireCité Scolaire Internationale Europole, GrenobleNEWCOMER Stong link established. Definite development of contact and big plans for future years. Aim by both partners to produce video entitled ‘Our School’ about school life. Goff’s Yr 8 have begun working on the video using both the English and French languages. Fifteen Yr 12 students are to be given personal emails so they will be able to communicate with their peers in Grenoble. Future plans to set up reciprocal visit once students have got to know one another. This may involve joint projects and activities.Gosforth High School, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Lycée Francois Magendie, BordeauxFirm development plan; broad perspective of project Firm development plan in place for next school year involving 36 students in total. Students to be paired according to interests and ability, with set topics to be studied by both French and English students. These topics will form the basis for the AS level oral exam at the end of the year for the English students. Communication will take place via emails and video-conferencing. Multimedia room at French school will be ready for next academic year. Exchange is planned in Nov 2002 for English students and for French students in March 2003. Gosforth has also proposed the involvement of Year 12 students with a “Baccalauréat” class and may meet this class during a work-experience week in Bordeaux. French school also has links with a Dutch school which also opens up the possibility of a European project with the three countries involved. Firm link and a huge amount achieved this year. Good plans for next year. Email link between English students in Y12 and French students. Discussed topics both groups were studying and also own personal areas of interest. Exchanged emails once a week. Physical exchange went ahead in November. Eight students from emailing group plus two Yr 10 students went to Bordeaux. All students stayed with French families. French students came to England in April. Taken on excursions and also experienced English classes with their partners at Gosforth. Work experience trip also went ahead. Again students were accommodated with French families. Went to work at the Lyonnaise-des-Eaux company. Future plans for students on the exchange to experience French classesGrove School, Market DraytonCollege Anatole NEWCOMEREnglish school already has a number of similar projects. Looking to focus on smaller projects. Haydon School, Pinner, Middlesex Collége MozartTechnical problems but definite plans to continue English and French schools have exchanged letters Technical problems on both sides leading to delays; Haydon are currently upgrading their system and will have a secure email address for each student. Other problems include teachers having to resort to communicating by fax. Concern about mismatch in ability range Plans for exchange of class videos Hayle Community SchoolLe College WatteauNEWCOMEREnthusiastic about the scheme. Looking to expand and develop the project next year. Correspondence by mail between Yrs 8, 9 & 10 and French students age 14 – 15. Email contact between students privately if desired. Found Yr 8 language skills not sufficient to correspond adequately and so will run project with yrs 9 & 10 only next year. French section of letters written in class. Contain some prescribed topics in order to practise future tense etc., and a free section in which students can write what they wish. Students can also add section in English at home if they wish. Very enthusiastic about the scheme and are looking to expand it to other classes in the appropriate years. Possibility of a mini exchange taking place next year Hele’s School, PlymouthLe Lycee Ste. Therese, RennesNEWCOMERClear planning has been undertaken for coming year. Many areas identified for possible development of project. Visit to French school by Clive Rowbury – (Assistant Head) in April 2003. Most impressed by modern forward thinking perspective of French school and commitment to use of ICT. Email contact between staff ensured commitment was maintained and compatibility of videoconferencing equipment could be checked. Visit of French staff to Hele’s school for planning meeting in June. Number of possibilities for project development in Languages, Geography, Theatre Studies and Media Studies departments. Would have liked more information on their partner school before the conference so that time could have been maximised in initial planning meeting. The Holt School (change of partner)Lycée Alfred de VignyNEWCOMERGood links established. Definite plans for continuation and development. Exchange of personal letters, photos and class photos between Yr 10 and Classe de Seconde (SE) students. Also regular email contact between staff. Application placed to Bectra for funding to cover videophone installation in French school. Visit by French co-ordinator planned for July to enable further planning. Exchange planned for 2004. King Edward VII Jean VigoExam clashes and lack of personal email accounts but keen to continue link Student’s interests were well matched – a wide range of students were available for link, making link easier. English school were unable to make contact with French school until mid-April due to an Ofsted inspection and another project. By this time, some students were going on exam leave and it was not possible to establish definite contact. However, King Edward VII very keen to pursue the link in next academic year. In September, students will email each other to exchange personal information King Edward VII should have access rights to student email accounts on the school network so that co-ordinators can monitor content. Much more successful this year. Link maintained and has made an important impact on motivation and learning of students. Y13 took part in extremely successful email exchange with the equivalent aged students at Jean Vigo. Students discussed key topics within A level syllabus and also had the opportunity to “chat” with the French students. Due to course work deadlines and exam pressure class emailing stopped at Easter. Future plans include starting a similar exchange with new Yr12 students. Attempt to set up a link at Key Stage 4 as well.Litherland High SchoolInstitut St Jean BoscoNEWCOMERLink quickly established. Good progress so far with solid plans for the future. Email partners have been set up for Yrs 10 & 11 using personal profiles supplied by the French school. Yr 9 will be allocated in September. Excellent introduction video has been received from French school and Lhs are in the process of making one. Preparatory visit to Lanrodec planned for September to explore possible exchange. Little Lever SchoolCollčge RépubliqueNEWCOMERProgress good with definite plans for continuation and development. Set up pen friend link between Yr 8 class and cinqiéme class and Yr 9 class and quatriéme class. Classes sent bilingual letters to one another in order that both sets could practise both reading and writing. Some students also sent photographs which were very much appreciated. In all, three letters were written each by the English and French students. Subjects such as personal details, Easter celebrations, customs and forthcoming holidays were discussed. Pupils greatly enjoyed project and eagerly awaited news from their French counterparts. Hoping to continue in the same vein next year and also introduce email. Northgate High School, Ipswich Lycée B.B. DelambreSome technical difficulties but schools have definite plans to maintain links Project commenced with email exchange, with the potential for physical exchange with students in Amiens. Unfortunately, only 14 students showed an interest in having an email exchange. Emailing proved difficult initially due to clashes with holidays and slow response by some of the parties concerned but there is a large amount of enthusiasm for the project. 5 students from Year 10 at Northgate visited Amiens where they met students from the French school. Comparisons were made between England and France and the physical exchange made the project seem more real. There are plans for students from Amiens to visit in Sep 2002. Northgate have encountered some difficulties with web-conferencing but these should be resolved in Sep 2002. Strong links developed in second year. Project successful and staff confident about future. Use of tandem-email to develop strong links between English and French pupils. Students also communicating through text messaging. Exchange of information on local area, music, the press and cultural differences. Aim to create some material for school website using this information. Number of students involved in exchange has doubled this year with English families much more willing to host. Future plans include visit by French school in September, set up of video conferencing link and possible exchange of trainee teachers. Pates Grammar SchoolLycee St CriqNEWCOMERSchool delighted. Link going ahead with considerable vigor and enthusiasm on both sides. Future plans to strengthen link. Work experience link set up between Year 12/13 and French students with first group going to Pau in January and French students coming in June 2004. Malcolm Andrew, Head of French went to Pau in June to consolidate link and visited some of the primary schools which will be taking placement students. Also made contact with College Jeanne D’Albret to set up correspondence exchange for younger students and further develop the email link already in place. Yr 11 who will have taken their GCSE early to spend some of their Yr 11 French ‘enrichment experience’ putting together a brochure for Pau students exploring links between the two towns. Future plans to set up mini teacher exchange. The Piggott School Cité Scolaire Jean GuehennoReasonable start, likely to progress well Have exchanged emails with Y12 students. Next year planning to research the Lycee system as A level coursework topic, also possible geography link. LC Manager will have more time next year to pursue the project. Link developing well. Good plans for the coming year. Work experience exchange set up between Yr 12 and equivalent French students. Offered places to surrounding English schools to make numbers match. Initial concerns from French side were allayed by success of project. Link forged between humanities departments. KS3 material has been sent to French teacher in charge of teaching History through the median of English. Prince Henry’s Grammar SchoolLP Jean MermozNEWCOMERSlow progress but enthusiasm to continue and develop project next year. Due to industrial action in French schools the email link which was to be set up has been delayed until September. Staff in regular contact and there are definite plans to get project of the ground in the coming academic year.Queen Mary’s High School, Walsall Lycée Saint SerninEmail/technical difficulties but keen to maintain link Email exchange started in Jan 2002. Students matched at random. Topics for communication (personal details, school life and local environment) agreed in advance. Emails sent to personal account of French teacher as there were not enough computer terminals at French school – difficulty with this as some emails did not reach recipients. Similarly, some French emails sent to personal email account of co-ordinator at English school. Students did not appreciate being instructed to write on particular topics – wanted more freedom in this area. This particular English group generally lacked motivation. Co-ordinator at English school unsure if this was the case with the French students. However, some evidence of genuine interest in forming friendships. Co-ordinators at English and French schools have regular contact and exchanged personal phone numbers. Keen to maintain link despite general problems with technology. The French school is not as well equipped. Ripley St. Thomas, Lancaster LP Gabriel PeriLate start by Ripley St. Thomas but keen to maintain link Ripley St. Thomas started work on the project after the May and June AS exams. However, the French School had already closed for the summer by this time. Contact will resume in September. The English students produced a questionnaire as requested by the French school. The French school were to send a video of the activities at their school but this has not been received by the English school. The English school feel that starting a project in the middle of the academic year is difficult. They are keen to maintain the link, however. Shireland Language College, Smethwick Jacques de CourWell-focused development plans, enthusiastic and organised Letter exchange set up after conference in Paris (50% written in French, 50% in English), with more complex info expressed in their mother tongue. Very successful as students showed great enthusiasm and motivation. There are plans for a physical exchange. Geography Depts at both schools involved in projects re making videos on Birmingham and Paris. The Language Depts will translate the script in Sep, with plans to dub the video in French as a presentation exercise. There is also plans to send video to French school with the script in English. Difficulties include delays due to attendance, Ofsted inspection, exam times, school events, shy personalities, lack of ICT facilities at French School, general lack of time. Shireland have definite plan and timetable for progression of project. South Wolds Community School, NottinghamCollčge Voltaire, ToulonNEWCOMERSchools and staff very well matched. Extremely successful first year with definite plans to continue. Innumerable emails between staff who got on both professionally and personally. Yr 9 and 4ičme assigned email partners according to personalities and interests. Exchanged information about their different education experiences. French staff visited. Took digital photographs and brought postcards from French students. Also collected application forms from Yrs 6-8 for pen friends as both teachers also work in primary schools. Future plans to continue established email links between students and extend to Yr 9; set up visits; establish videoconference link. St. Clere’s, Stanford-Le-HopeCollčge Robert Schuman Yr2– Additional Link Ville aux RosesSound start, good progress made, excellent plans for future Excellent rapport between French and English co-ordinators. Approx. 60 students involved. Email exchange set up but technological difficulties caused breakdown in this system of communication. However, schools persisted via post or using personal email addresses of co-ordinators. Work underway to compile video “documentaries” of each school with plans for completion by end Sep 2002. Plans for joint magazine, with potential for website. English co-ordinator keen to involve partner primary and tertiary establishments. Hopes for physical exchange. Great enthusiasm shown by teachers and students alike – excellent means of fostering acceptance of people from another country. Extension of link to include new school. Progress held up by Ofsted inspection but definite plans for further development. Link extended due to the move of French co-ordinator to new school. Yr 8 letter and email link set up with great success. Joint presentation at January conference – highlight of project. Extension of link to include primary partners on both sides. Delays and problems due to Ofsted and family illness meant visit of English co-ordinator to France has been delayed until September. Plans to start videoconferencing and a joint trip to Strasbourg are in the pipeline. St. Edward’s College, Liverpool Lycée Victor HugoLittle progress, late start and little persistence Not much to report since the project was launched in Jan 2002. Students at St. Edward’s were asked to write a description of themselves (50% English, 50% French) but St Edward’s experience technical difficulties and these emails were sent at end of April. French co-ordinator asked his group to reply but reply was not sent until mid-June via email when English students were on exam leave. Hopes to continue link next year, and perhaps arrange a physical exchange. Web cam exchange from English school proving problematic due to technical difficulties. Huge improvement in progress made. Link established and plans to develop project further in the coming year. Pen pal link set up between Yr 11 and the French seconde class. Total of 6 letters have been exchanged this year. Technical problems stopped planned email link going ahead. Students seemed to prefer letters. Correspondence was semi-guided, including subjects relevant to approaching exams. Physical exchange is being planned for either the coming year or 2004/2005.Stretford High School Community Language CollegeCollege Le Cedre AND College GounodNEWCOMERVery successful first meeting where aims of project were agreed. Some technical difficulties but commitment remains strong on both sides. Email project set up between Yr 8 English pupils and Yr 9 French pupils. Questionnaires designed by pupils and completed in respective target language. Due to lack of email resources at Stretford High, the French students emails were replied to by post. Technical problems, strikes in France and the differing length of school years have meant that only one correspondence was exchanged. Looking to increase this number next year. Project will continue with same students and there are plans to involve year 7 students also. Possible visit of French school to England some time next year. Tile Hill Wood School & Language College, CoventryCollčge Guillaume BudéProject in its infancy but expectations are high to forge strong links during 2002/03 Letter and email exchange established Class photograph from Tile Hill emailed to French school and French school emailed their photo in return. Internet research on Coventry and Paris carried out by pupils. Year 8 sent profile of themselves to French school – plans to extend this during 2002/03, Future plans for 2002/03 include incorporating the Scheme of Work, production of a web page about the partnership, use of variety of ICT tools, pupils encouraged to write independently to their French partners. Torquay Boys’ Grammar SchoolCollčge Lycée MoličreLittle progress, English co-ordinator had heavy workload, communications tapered off Difficulty with starting a new project mid-year – timing awkward. Communications continued until the Easter holidays but exams prevented any further progress. The French School did not appear to be committed to the project. The English co-ordinator was head of the department and found it difficult to manage the project in addition to her own workloads. Good progress has been made and a strong link has now been established. Plans to develop the project further next year. Successful visit to French school by staff and SNAG (School Nutrition Action Group) to discover what nutrition at school meant in France. English and French teachers had long discussion regarding PSHE (drugs and sex problems), discipline, and management Experienced a French biology lesson taught in English, part of the new initiative in France called “itineraries de découvertes”. Hoping to set up email link and receive a return visit from the French staff and students in the new academic year. The Thomas Lord Audley School and Language CollegeCollege de L’esplanade, St OmerNEWCOMERProject in early stages but both schools keen to continue. Communication has been limited to teaching staff. Definite plans to develop link to include students in future. Schools swapped documents and information in order that an initial “old-style” display could begin process of cooperation and understanding between schools. Due to other demands within the language college, school has been unable to co-ordinate much student-related activities. Video about Thomas Lord Audley made by English students and taken to French school on recent visit by staff. French school will begin work on their video shortly. Contact remains strong between schools and a return visit by the French staff is expected soon. Future plans include video conferencing, pen-friend link and a mini exchange. Thomas Lord Audley felt it would have been useful if they had known that French schools needed to fulfil certain criteria to gain funding. Wolverhampton Girls’ High SchoolLycée Gustave Courbet-BelfortGood progress. Exchange visit successful with return visit planned for October 2002. Email exchange up and running with a group of students preparing a research project. No video-conferencing link possible due to lack of facilities at French school. Work experience not possible due to lack of time and funding on French side. Woodbridge High SchoolCollčge La Rabičre NOW WITH Collége Pablo NerudaFrench school did not attend the initial meeting in Paris and has not responded to emails, phone calls or letters. Woodbridge have formed their own link with another school with which they have a successful letter-writing (pen pal) exchange system in place. Project has progressed well with new school. Plans to extend and enrich the project in the coming year. Pen-pal project continued with a new set of students. A display has been made using letters from the French students and information about where they live. Links have been furthered through exchange visits. Plans to develop link through email correspondents via a website called HYPERLINK "http://www.epals.com" www.epals.com. At present French school does not have IT resources to do this but Woodbridge are hoping to overcome this problem in the coming year. 68ŒŲ)LƉŠÉā> @ Hƒqrsœ.©Ŗ«įˆ§Øę S\]µZ[ØÜ.xS"¼"½"¾"ļ"!#€$$‚$˜$¬$
