Report on pen pal link with French school
Last year one of our French teachers established a pen-pal link
with a school in the north of France (Le collège Pablo Néruda
in Wattrelos). The students from both schools wrote to one another
in French and English. This proved to be very successful.
This year the project has continued with the same school but with
a different group of students. Our students are responding positively.
They write to their pen-pal every half term, preparing responses
in class as well as producing some information on “our town”
or “our family”. A large classroom display has been
made, with letters written by the French students as well as a map
and information about where they live.
The school in France is also our exchange school, so we have made
direct links through visits. Our students were able to make contact
with their exchange partners before going to France, which was of
great mutual benefit.
We planned to extend this project as an e-mail link and have carried
out preparatory work:. We found a safe website that could be used
(www.epals.com)
and created e-mail addresses for our students. We then sent these
to our partner school. Unfortunately they do not have sufficient
computers to enable e-mailing with a whole class and they have restricted
internet access. We hope to be able to resolve these problems in
order to extend and enrich the project.
