Progress reports 2002 - 2003

The Holt School / Lycée Alfred De Vigny
Staff
Samia Earle / Vincent Mery
Background
After our initial meeting and planning in January a lot of the
regular contact has been established via e-mail between staff. Pupils
of a Year 10 class at The Holt and Classe de Seconde (SE) at Alfred
de Vigny have exchanged personal letters, photos, class photos.
Both classes have started to look at the information about their
local areas, the French students have made a video conducting a
virtual tour of the school for their partner.
The Holt has applied to Becta for funding for a video-phone to
be installed at Loches to allow for live links between teachers
and individual pupils. At present Alfred de Vigny has no facilities
for video-conferencing, but e-mail links have been frequent.
As the joint project only started in January 2003, there has not
been immediate progress on the objectives listed, given the constraints
of differing school holidays and a shorter summer term in France.
Vincent Mery will be visiting the Holt in July for further planning.
It is hoped both classes will continue work in their projects in
September, so further progress will have been made by January 2004
in time for the next conference and before Year 11 exams and study
leave next year.
We intend to continue research on targets one and two and exchange
data via post, fax or e-mail. Vincent Mery is looking at ways of
using the local resource centre for individual contact between pupils.
We are planning an exchange for 2004, but there are restrictions
regarding GCSE exams here.
Pupils are keeping full diaries and folders of their project work.
