Progress reports 2002 - 2003

Goffs School / Cité Scolaire Internationale Europole

Staff

Anne Kechacha / Nathalie Kauffmann

Background

Two teachers from Goffs School met with one from Cité Scolaire Internationale Europole in January 2003 in London. The idea was to set up a joint project for our students promoting contact between the two schools with the eventual aim of a reciprocal visit. A development plan was drawn up and agreed to by both parties. The plan consisted of devising a video entitled ‘Our School’ which involved filming five separate scenes about school life at Goffs and at Cité Internationale by Year 8/5ème pupils. In addition, a personal email link between approximately 15 students each in Year 12/seconde would be established in order to develop fluency. On another level, Goffs would also like to establish a pastoral link based on its house system whereby students communicate with each other via email on a more ad hoc basis.

Progress to date

So far, students in Goffs School are working on a video diary of our school in French and English which will be sent to France at the beginning of next year. Also, now that Year 12 students have finished their AS exams and are back in school, they will be issued with personal email addresses and they will therefore be able to communicate with their peers in Grenoble. We are hoping that the teacher at the Cité Internationale will be able to find young people with similar interests and aspirations as our students.

Future Plans

Once contact has been established and the students feel that they know each other a little, we are hoping that students will feel confident enough to participate in a reciprocal visit – maybe in two year’s time. This will not necessarily be an exchange but a visit whereby students carry out joint activities within school and the local area.

Ideas or recommendations in the light of our experience

Start off with small seemingly insignificant steps, keep talking and communicating! Unfortunately, our initial contact teacher will no longer be in post in September so we had to establish a relationship with another teacher - this was not a problem but it did mean that progress was slower than we had hoped in the beginning.
