Update
Cheap Miss Me Jeans Plans are now underway to enter the fourth phase of this successful
project. Letters have been sent out to new language colleges and
to others who may now wish to join the project. Partnerships in
the third tranche have been particularly strong and we wish all
partnerships well in their next stage of planning.
Because of increased interest from French schools in bilingual
studies of science, we have invited a small number of science colleges
to join the project. We would also like to encourage more schools
to join the “Science Across the World” programme, which
can be found at: www.scienceacross.org.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you about
the TIPD programme - an important source of funding for study visits
and exchanges. There is significant funding available for visits
to schools abroad within already established partnerships, If you
have not already done so, I hope you may be able to access this
funding to further strengthen your link with your French partner
school, as the benefits of visiting your partner school and meeting
the French coordinators face-to-face cannot be underestimated. The
administration of the programme is undertaken by the Specialist
Schools Trust. Please see the Trust website at: www.schoolsnetwork.org.uk
or contact Alison Wedley for further details at: alisonw@specialistschools.org.uk.
English co-ordinators from phases 1 and 2 met in June last term
in London and a report of the seminar can be found on this site.
Presentations can also be viewed by selecting the ‘conferences'
tab at the top of this page.
There will be an opportunity for the new group of schools joining
the programme in the fourth phase to meet their French counterparts
at the fourth annual LC-SE project conference in London on Friday,
January 21 2005. Partners from all earlier phases will be invited
to attend and to showcase their projects. Further details will be
sent out to schools soon.
Work is still underway to upgrade the LC-SE website. We are planning
some very exciting things, including a forum that will enable schools
to discuss all aspects of the project in a central place. Sharing
good practice is important to the success of the LC-SE project,
so if you have any examples of project work and/or photos please
send them to Sophie Lawton at: sophiel@specialistschools.org.uk
and she will post them on the site. We would be very grateful if
you could encourage your French partners to send items in for the
French area of the website. Also, if you have any interesting ideas
for upgrades to the site, or for the project in general, we would
love to hear from you!
Please remember that if you encounter any problems with your partnership,
need help with your planning, have some exciting news, or just want
to ask a general question, please do not hesitate to get in touch
- we are here to help!
We wish you all the best with your partnerships.
Sue Balmer, Kathy Wicksteed, Jo Palmer and Sophie Lawton
