Conferences
The fifth annual LC-SE conference was held at the CIEP in Sèvres
in Paris on 19-20 January 2006. As in previous years, coordinators
from schools joining the project were able to meet their new partners
face to face and to plan activities together. This personal contact
at an early stage in the partnerships is a great strength of the
LC-SE programme and is invaluable in helping schools to make lasting
partnerships.
Most of the participating English schools in the fifth phase are
Language Colleges, but a small number of schools of other specialisms
joined the programme in 2006. We are keen to encourage schools with
specialisms other than languages to submit applications and have
special interest in involving schools wishing to work with a French
partner on vocational link building service. Work experience in France is becoming
increasingly popular as an activity within the LC-SE programme.
Support and advice from teachers experiencing success with work
experience can be found in case studies, visits and advice on this
website.
At the conference, it was a pleasure to see a presentation from
a Mathematics and Computing College for the first time. Delegates
enjoyed presentations of successful projects from teachers in all
phases of the programme, as well as presentations from Véronique
Renault from the Institut Français in London and an explanation
of the e-twinning programme.
Our thanks are extended to the CIEP for hosting the evening reception
to welcome teachers from participating schools and to representatives
of TV5monde for their presentation of materials to support cross
curricular projects.

Fourth annual conference, 21 January 2005 - London
The fourth annual LC-SE project conference was hosted by the Grey
Coat Hospital School, a language college in Westminster. Schools
joining the project in the fourth tranche were able to meet their
partners and to discuss their project plans for the future. This
is the first year specialist schools other than language colleges
have been invited to join the programme and we were pleased to welcome
mathematics and computing colleges, business and enterprise colleges
and engineering colleges. Delegates were able to see presentations
of successful projects by teachers from schools in the first three
years of the project. Thanks are extended to the Institut Français
in London for hosting an evening reception to welcome representatives
from participating schools in France and England. Thanks also to
presenters from the British Council and Science Across the World
who made delegates aware of exciting opportunities available for
joint international projects.
